Job Title: Clerk to Governors
Salary: NJC Grade D (190 hours per annum worked flexibly)
(Actual Salary approximately £2795 pending a pay rise)

Job Overview:
Cann Bridge School educates children and young people aged 3 to 19 with severe learning difficulties.
We are currently seeking to appoint a Clerk to Governors to start in October 2024, or earlier if possible. The role involves delivering an efficient and professional service to our Governing Board.
Responsibilities include attending and minute taking during all Governing Body meetings, preparing agendas, managing correspondence, circulating papers, and guidance to the Chair of Governors and School on all procedural matters; training can be provided.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, demonstrate proficiency in using ICT, able to manage and meet deadlines, and a professional commitment to confidentiality.
The position involves participating in ten Governor meetings annually. Typically, these meetings occur on Thursdays between 4:45 pm and 7:30 pm. However, occasional additional meetings may be required to support Governors in fulfilling their duties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and organise all Governing Body meetings, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and proper procedures.
- Communicate meeting details and distribute relevant documents promptly.
- Record comprehensive minutes and maintain attendance records for each meeting.
- Collaborate with the Chair of Governors and Headteacher to create and distribute agendas in advance.
- Manage correspondence and maintain an organised filing system for important documents.
- Provide advice and guidance on procedural matters, legal requirements, and governance best practices.
- Stay informed about relevant legislation, regulations, and changes in governance procedures and policies.
- Arrange and facilitate training sessions for governors as necessary.
- Uphold strict confidentiality during meetings and act as a liaison between the Governing Body, school staff, and external stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all Governing Body activities, decisions, and policies.
- Assist governors in understanding their roles and responsibilities, offering information and support as needed.
- Undertake additional tasks as required to support the efficient functioning of the Governing Body and the school.

Our Supply Bank offers you the chance to be employed on a casual basis, allowing you to balance work with other responsibilities. The only expectation is that you contribute at least one day every three months—keeping you connected and engaged with our school community.
This role is perfect for those looking to gain paid experience while working towards a formal Teaching and Learning qualification. In fact, many of our current full-time staff began their journey with us as part of the Supply Bank.
As a Supply Bank member, you’ll have the chance to participate in INSET Days (Professional Development Days), after-school training sessions, and complete Positive Behaviour Support training. You’ll be expected to meet the same standards as our Grade C Teaching Assistants, ensuring you play a vital role in supporting our students.
Supply Bank staff are paid at Grade C, with payments made a full calendar month in arrears. As part of our commitment to safeguarding, all staff are required to undergo an enhanced DBS disclosure.

Governor
At Cann Bridge School we are looking for a governor to join our governing body. As a governor you will be a volunteer who makes a vital contribution to the success of the school. Cann Bridge School are looking to recruit one member onto our dynamic Board of Governors. Ideally, the individual would have experience within finance, although this is not essential. The individual would need to support the interests of the Local Authority in their role as governor.
The Board of Governors have a healthy working relationship with the Headteacher who welcomes challenge and scrutiny of the school’s work, and they offer strategic support for the direction of the school.
They are looking for an individual who is passionate about making a difference to the lives of children within the school and has strategic vision. Being involved in a unique setting for children with special needs, the individual can expect to find the role challenging, yet extremely rewarding.
