Hello we are Mary and Karen, we are both registered nurses and have been based at Cann Bridge School since 2017 as part of the Children’s Community Nursing Team. We are here to work alongside school staff to enable children and young people to participate as fully as possible in all aspects of school activity.

We provide support and training on areas such as:

Medication administration

  • Gastrostomy feeding
  • Epilepsy / emergency medication
  • Diabetic care / insulin administration
  • Asthma / inhaler administration
  • Oxygen and suction
  • Allergies / anaphylaxis / auto injectors
  • Education on specific medical conditions and any other need

We write EHCP health reports and attend child protection meetings if we are involved with the child.

We are happy at any time to discuss your child medical needs and work in partnership with you.

To do this we liaise with outside agencies to ensure your child has the best care. It is really helpful if when you attend medical appointments with your child you request that we are included in copies of the clinic letter, so that we can be kept up to date.

We will ask for consent prior to making any referrals to other professionals.

The nurses are part of a School Nurse Forum. The group includes our managers and other nurses employed by UHP working at Woodlands and Mill Ford in Plymouth. Through this we have on-going education, share resources and experiences to benefit our students.
