1Cann Class Teacher
EYFS & Key Stage 1 Lead
I began my teaching career in SEND in 2004. Since then, I have had the wonderful experience of working alongside inspirational leaders in a variety of special schools and a further education college across the country.
Having studied for a BA Hons at Dartington College of Arts, I continue to enjoy and advocate for the benefits of the arts as a creative vehicle for learners to develop self-expression, self-confidence, self-advocacy, and as a platform for creating fun, exciting, stimulating, and memorable learning opportunities.
I strongly advocate for a PACE approach (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy) to relate to, foster, and build meaningful relationships and rapport with all learners. This approach values all forms of communication and believes that all behaviour is a form of communication, with every interaction being an intervention.
I continue to be excited about drawing from academic research to inform my teaching practice. I am passionate about finding the right key/intervention to unlock learning. My knowledge is underpinned by an MA in Special and Inclusive Education from the Institute of Education (IoE), University College London (UCL). I am particularly interested in whole-word reading and gestalt principles.
When I’m not at Cann Bridge, I enjoy walking in temperate rainforests with my family and learning more about lichens.
